Grand Island Recliner

The Grand Island Recliner is a Healthcare Recliner based on the popular Grand Island Lounge Series by HOK for David Edward.
The biggest challenge with healthcare recliner design is also the first step, identifying a mechanism that will be both ergonomic and durable. Once the mechanism is identified design can begin.
The first step is attaching a support bar under the mechanism to both attach arms to and support the casters.
Anti Sway bar and connection for handle is attached.
Once the fundamentals of the mechanism are taken care of, I moved on to creating the exterior shell of the design and having that design approved by the designers of the original lounge furniture on which this is based.
CNC cut plywood creates the body of the chair atop the metal frame. Enough of a gap is left between separate components to allow parts to move without fabric wear.
